Sofia Macdonald is an American and Swiss artist currently based in New York City. She specializes in painting, printmaking, ceramic, and textile arts; drawing inspiration from the unique properties and capabilities of each medium. Growing up in Los Angeles and Zurich, Sofia spent much of her childhood surrounded by nature. Whether it be the rolling green hills of the Swiss Alps, or the salty waves of the California coast, her experiences are reflected within her whimsical and surrealist style. Sofia strays from naturalistic and idealized depictions; she is excited by the irregular and abnormal. She strives to depict the close connection between nature and humans through her carefully designed images, juxtaposing the eccentric and organic with her clean and precise style.
